In Memorium: Pfc Rex Page

It is with great sadness that I am now posting the reason for the 3 a.m. phone call that had my son so upset last week.

On Wednesday, June 28, his buddy, 21-year old Rex Page, from Kirksville, Kansas, was killed when the humvee he was riding in came under attack. Pfc Page was mortally wounded in the head and torso. A true fighter, like all Marines, he lived long enough to make it to Germany, where he succombed to his wounds during surgery.

This young man was well-liked in the platoon, and fought well and bravely. He was proud to be a Marine and proud to be serving in my son's infantry unit during his first deployment to Iraq.

The cruelist thing for his buddies to take is that they are so close to coming home. Pfc Page will just be making the journey ahead of them.

Pray for the devastated family of my son's friend, and for my son and all the young men and women like him who are forced by war to become old men ahead of their time. Pray that they all come home safe, in one piece, and of sound mind. Pray that no more come home early.
